Suspected bandits on Tuesday night attacked personnel of the National Park Service (NPS) in Oloka village, Orire Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving several officers feared killed or injured.
The attack, which reportedly occurred around 9:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026, caught the NPS personnel off guard. Details of the incident remain sketchy, as the exact number of casualties has yet to be officially confirmed.
The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, confirmed the attack, describing it as an assault by yet-to-be-identified gunmen on National Park Service operatives.
“Yes, there was an attack by unidentified men against the personnel of the National Park. The Commissioner of Police and other service chiefs are currently on their way to the location,” Ayanlade said.
He added that the Commissioner of Police, Femi Haruna, has deployed tactical teams, including Mobile Police Force operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) unit, to the area to prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
Security agencies are expected to provide more details as operations continue at the scene.
