The Katsina State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a newly married woman accused of stabbing her husband to death just three days after their wedding in Jibia Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, revealing that the groom was discovered in a pool of blood at his home in Tashar Buja community.
Aliyu said a distress report was received on November 23 at about 1:30 p.m., prompting detectives to rush to the scene. The victim was found with a deep cut on his neck and was taken to the hospital, where he was confirmed dead.
He said the suspect, believed to be the deceased’s wife, is currently in custody as investigations continue.
Residents identified the victim as Abubakar Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske, who had married the suspect, Zainab Muhammad, only on Thursday before the fatal incident on Sunday.
Community sources allege that the bride attacked her husband while he was asleep, and later visited a neighbour asking for food—behaviour that raised suspicion. When the neighbours followed her home, they reportedly found the groom lying lifeless.
Family members denied rumours that the marriage was forced, insisting the couple had been in a cordial relationship before the wedding.
Katsina State Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Shehu, has assured the public of a thorough investigation and urged anyone with relevant information to come forward.
