The Kebbi State Police Command has killed one suspected bandit and arrested three others in coordinated operations across Maiyama and Shanga Local Government Areas of the state.
According to a statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Nafiu Abubakar, the operations were launched following separate attacks on Botoro Gadi and Kwari communities by armed bandits.
Abubakar said that in the first incident, eight armed men invaded the residence of one Alhaji Sani in Botoro Gadi, Mungadi area of Maiyama LGA, abducting two residents identified as Muhafi Sani and Shamsiya Aliyu.
He said that upon receiving a distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Maiyama led a joint team of police operatives and local vigilantes to pursue the attackers. The team engaged the bandits in a gun battle, killing one of the suspects and recovering a dane gun and an empty cartridge shell.
In a similar attack, another group of bandits invaded Kwari village in the Giron Masa area of Shanga LGA, abducting two residents, Suleiman and Yunwa Suleiman. However, a swift response from police officers, soldiers, and vigilantes forced the kidnappers to abandon their captives and flee into the forest with gunshot injuries.
Abubakar added that police also arrested one Musa Muhammad at Takware village in Shanga for unlawful possession of ammunition. Items recovered from him included three live rounds and 20 empty shells of 7.62×39mm calibre ammunition.
He confirmed that all rescued victims have been medically examined and reunited with their families, assuring residents that the Command remains committed to eliminating criminal elements and safeguarding lives and property across the state.
