Tragedy struck in Enugu over the weekend when a 22-year-old woman, identified as Miss Odama Mary Agado, reportedly took her own life after discovering her boyfriend with another woman.

Mary, a hairstylist from Woleche-Ipuole in Yahe Ward, Yala Local Government Area of Cross River State, was said to have ingested a poisonous substance suspected to be sniper following the incident.

Sources said the deceased had been doing well in her business and had recently bought a car and rented an apartment for her boyfriend.

According to a family member, Daniel, the tragedy occurred after Mary visited her boyfriend’s apartment last Friday and found him with another woman. Distraught by the discovery, she reportedly left for her own apartment, where she called her mother to narrate what had happened.

“She told her mother to take whatever happened in good faith, saying she wouldn’t live again,” Daniel said.

He explained that Mary’s mother, who reportedly lacked airtime to call her back, did not raise an alarm until she later received a call that her daughter had consumed poison and was rushed to the hospital.

Efforts by doctors to save her life proved unsuccessful, and she was confirmed dead later that evening. Her remains were taken to her hometown in Yala, Cross River State, where she was buried immediately.

“Immediately the body arrived, we dug a grave and buried her because she was too young to be kept for a customary burial,” Daniel added.

The family did not report the incident to the police, insisting that she acted on her own.

“We are still in shock. Some people say she was spiritually manipulated, but whatever the case, no amount of blame will bring her back,” Daniel said.
