The US Mission in Nigeria has warned visa applicants that fees will not be refunded if their applications are rejected, stressing that payment covers processing and does not guarantee approval.
The mission issued the clarification on Wednesday in a post on its official social media account, @USinNigeria, debunking the belief that unsuccessful applicants are entitled to refunds.
“ The fee paid is an application processing fee, not a payment for a visa to be issued,” it stated.
It explained that the fee covers the processing of an application until a final decision is reached, regardless of whether the visa is approved or denied.
The mission urged prospective travellers to obtain accurate information on visa requirements from the US Department of State’s official website, travel.state.gov.
It also cautioned applicants against fraudsters and third-party consultants promising guaranteed visas or refundable application deposits, advising them to rely on official US government websites ending in .gov.
