The mutilated body of an unidentified man has been discovered behind the Monday Market in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The corpse was reportedly found by residents on Tuesday morning, prompting members of the community to alert security operatives, who later arrived at the scene and evacuated the body.
The discovery caused concern among residents, with some gathering at the General Hospital, Pankshin, where the corpse was taken as efforts were made to establish the identity of the deceased.
A community member, Panshak Rogo, who spoke at the hospital, said the victim had not been identified as of the time of his comment.
Rogo alleged that the man’s body had been mutilated, with his ears and nose reportedly cut off and his private part and other sensitive organs allegedly removed or tampered with.
He said, “Presently, we are at the General Hospital. We are here because there is an unidentified individual who was killed around Monday Market.
“The corpse is yet to be identified because some sensitive organs have been removed from the body. His ears and nose were cut off, while his private part has also been tampered with.”
Rogo appealed to residents whose relatives or acquaintances had recently been reported missing to contact the police and assist with the identification of the deceased.
He specifically urged members of the public with missing-person reports to visit the Pankshin Police Station or the nearest police station.
“Please, if you have any report of a missing person, go to the nearest police station. To be precise, Pankshin Police Station is important,” he said.
He also called on anyone with information that could help identify the deceased or shed light on the circumstances surrounding his death to report to the police.
Efforts to obtain confirmation and further details from the Plateau State Police Command were unsuccessful as of press time.
