Two police officers attached to the Imo State Police Command have died following a road accident involving seven operatives along the Amakalu–Umuelemma Road in Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

The command confirmed the incident on Thursday, saying an investigation had commenced to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

In a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Henry Okoye, said the accident occurred on June 29, 2026, while the officers were on official duty.

According to him, the two officers died while receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash, while the remaining five personnel are currently undergoing medical treatment.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, CP Audu Garba Bosso, expressed condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased officers, describing their deaths as a painful loss to the command and the Nigeria Police Force.

He also directed that adequate medical care and welfare support be provided for the injured officers to aid their recovery.

Bosso assured the families of the affected personnel of the command’s support during the difficult period, reaffirming that the welfare of officers and men remained a top priority.

The police commissioner also ordered a thorough investigation into the accident to establish its cause.

The Imo State Police Command did not disclose the identities of the deceased officers or the five injured personnel.
