Two nurses have been taken into police custody following the deaths of two young sisters at the General Hospital Zuru in Zuru, Kebbi State, allegedly due to a wrong injection administered at the facility.
The victims, aged six and three, reportedly died on March 18 under circumstances suspected to be linked to medical negligence during treatment. Authorities said investigations are ongoing to ascertain the exact cause of the fatalities and determine any culpability.
In response to the incident, the Kebbi State Government has constituted a nine-member investigative panel to probe the matter. The panel is chaired by the Commissioner for Information and Culture, Alhaji Yakubu Ahmed, and has already commenced sittings in Zuru.
As part of measures to support the bereaved family, the state government presented a donation of ₦10 million. Speaking during the presentation at the Emir’s Palace in Zuru, Ahmed described the gesture as a show of solidarity with the grieving family, noting that no financial assistance could make up for the loss.
“This donation is to assist the family in coping with the trauma of this tragic loss. It is not, and cannot be, a replacement for the lives lost,” he said.
He added, “No amount of money can replace this irreparable loss, but we hope this gesture will show that the family is not alone and has not been neglected.”
