President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has postponed his planned visit to Iperu in Ogun State, opting instead to travel to Jos, the Plateau State capital, to commiserate with victims of recent deadly attacks.

The Presidency disclosed the development in a statement on Wednesday by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, who said the President altered his itinerary in response to the killing of innocent citizens in Plateau State.

According to the statement, Tinubu will proceed to Lagos after the Jos visit to observe the Good Friday holiday and is expected to resume his Ogun State trip on Saturday, April 4. During that visit, he will commission the Gateway International Cargo Airport and inaugurate two commercial aircraft to boost import and export activities.

He is also scheduled to inaugurate the new Federal Operations Unit edifice of the Nigeria Customs Service and its operational vehicles.

The President will later return to Lagos to continue the Easter holiday, where he is expected to commission several infrastructure projects executed by the administration of Babajide Sanwo-Olu, including the Ojota/Opebi Link Bridge, the Lagos State Geographic Information System Building, a multi-agency complex named after him, and a new school complex.

Before returning to Abuja, Tinubu is also billed to visit Bayelsa State on April 10 to commission projects completed by Douye Diri.

Meanwhile, Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang met with the President on Wednesday evening at the Presidential Villa in Abuja as the Federal Government intensifies its response to the attacks that have rocked the state.

The meeting, which followed the governor’s arrival at the State House around 6:45 p.m., focused on immediate security measures to prevent further violence. It comes in the wake of the deadly Palm Sunday attack in the Angwan Rukuba area of Jos, which reportedly claimed at least 27 lives.

Earlier, Tinubu had condemned the Jos attack and a separate incident in Kahir village in Kaduna State, where wedding guests were killed and abducted. He described the killings as “barbaric and cowardly,” vowing that those responsible would be brought to justice.

The President also commended Governor Mutfwang for his efforts to contain the situation and directed security agencies to intensify operations against the perpetrators. He further cautioned sections of the media against portraying the attacks as religiously motivated, warning that such narratives could escalate tensions in affected communities.
