President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, ahead of the expiration of the tenure of the current registrar, Is-haq Oloyede, on July 31, 2026.
The appointment was announced on Thursday in a statement issued by presidential spokesman, Bayo Onanuga, who described Aina as a distinguished academic with extensive experience in digital systems, examination technology, and public sector reform.
According to the statement, Aina, who will turn 40 in July, combines academic excellence with institutional experience that positions him for the role.
The Presidency said the new appointee holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.
Aina is currently a Professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife. The statement noted that he first worked with JAMB during his National Youth Service year, where he gained experience in national admissions processes and data-driven institutional systems.
The Presidency said those early experiences influenced his continued contributions to examination reforms and systems optimisation within the education sector.
Onanuga also highlighted Aina’s membership of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, the Nigerian Society of Engineers, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
The Presidency expressed confidence that Aina would strengthen JAMB’s operations, deepen reforms in the tertiary admissions process, and build on the achievements recorded under Oloyede’s leadership.
