Operatives of the Adamawa State Police Command have arrested three suspected armed robbers, believed to be some of the young men around the state known as Shila Boys, who are notorious for armed robbery.
A statement by the Command’s spokesperson SP Suleiman Nguroje, on Sunday, the boys were rounded up at Bishop Street Jimeta, as they were attacking and robbing individuals going to church for prayers on Sunday morning.
The street in view leads to several big churches, including St Theresa Cathedral, the headquarters of the Catholic Archdiocese of Yola, as well as the state headquarters of the Living Faith Church.
According to the statement, the arrest was made in the early hours of the day, Sunday, December 29, based on credible information.
According to Nguroje, items recovered from the suspects include machetes, knives, ATM cards, phones, and a tricycle.
He said the arrest of the suspects and seizure of the items did not come easy as the suspects put up a fight to escape.
“Upon reaching the scene, the suspects aggressively attacked the police officers with the machetes and knives in an attempt to resist arrest,” Nguroje said.
“In a bid to neutralize the attack, the minimum force was used.”
“Three of the suspects were arrested, while two others escaped.
“The injured suspects are now receiving treatment and aiding investigation,” he explained.
