The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected arms dealer and recovered three fabricated AK-47 rifles alongside other weapons during a sting operation in Dala Local Government Area of the state.
The operation, carried out by operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, took place around Dandinshe Quarters on Friday.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Umar Danladi Usman, 35, of Kurna Layin Masallacin Juma’a area, was intercepted while driving a Honda Accord vehicle with tinted glass.
Police said a thorough search of the suspect and the vehicle led to the recovery of three fabricated AK-47 rifles, five live cartridges, one AK-47 empty shell, three jack knives, a pair of jungle desert boots, and a suspected fake police identity card.
The command further disclosed that the suspect allegedly confessed during interrogation to procuring the rifles from Dutsin-Ma Local Government Area.
According to the police, the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue to track down his accomplices and dismantle the arms supply network.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Ibrahim Bakori, commended the operatives for their professionalism and bravery during the operation.
Bakori said the arrest reflects the impact of ongoing policing reforms aimed at combating violent crimes through intelligence-led operations and improved tactical coordination.
He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to sustaining the crackdown on illegal arms trafficking, kidnapping, and other violent crimes across the state, while urging residents to remain vigilant and continue providing credible information to support public safety efforts.
