Seyi Makinde is expected to formally declare his presidential ambition on Thursday, May 14, during a major political rally scheduled to hold at Mapo Hall in Ibadan, in what supporters describe as a significant step toward the 2027 general election.

The event, tagged “Unity Mega Rally Ibadan 2026,” is expected to serve as the official launch of the Oyo governor’s anticipated 2027 presidential bid, alongside the unveiling of a political alliance involving the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement, as well as other candidates aligned with the emerging coalition reportedly being championed by Makinde and his loyalists.

Sources familiar with the development said on Tuesday that preparations for the rally have intensified amid growing political realignments in Oyo State and across the South-West.

According to the sources, grassroots mobilisers, political associates, and loyalists of the governor have stepped up consultations and strategic engagements as discussions over a broader political structure continue to gain momentum.

Political observers say the moves form part of a wider strategy aimed at strengthening grassroots structures across Oyo State and beyond, while consolidating Makinde’s growing influence within Nigeria’s political landscape.

Insiders also disclosed that consultations among key stakeholders have accelerated in recent weeks, following unresolved internal disputes within the PDP at the national level, prompting some loyalists and political actors to explore alternative political arrangements.

The May 14 rally is expected to attract political stakeholders, youth groups, community leaders, traditional supporters, and allies from across the country, particularly those believed to share Makinde’s leadership style and political vision.

Although Makinde has yet to officially announce his intention to contest the presidency in 2027, support groups and political associates have continued to intensify calls for him to join the race.
