A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, has withdrawn from the Lagos State governorship race ahead of the 2027 election.

Adediran’s decision comes after the endorsement of the incumbent Deputy Governor, Obafemi Hamzat, as the consensus governorship candidate of the party.

Announcing his withdrawal, Adediran said the move followed the backing of Hamzat by the President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and other party leaders in Lagos, as well as the prevailing political realities within the APC.

He stressed that his decision was not due to weakness or lack of capacity, but was informed by discipline and a commitment to party unity and cohesion.

The former governorship candidate reaffirmed his loyalty to the APC and pledged continued support for Tinubu, describing the President’s leadership as central to the stability and progress of both the party and the nation.

Adediran also disclosed that the decision was taken during a meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, where Tinubu directed the party’s position on the Lagos governorship process.

He pledged to support the party’s choice and urged his supporters to align with the decision in the interest of party supremacy and strategic cohesion.

Adediran further expressed appreciation to members of the Lagos4Lagos Movement for their support, noting that the group’s vision of equity, inclusion, and a better Lagos remains alive and would now be channelled towards backing the party’s adopted candidate.
