Five people have reportedly sustained serious injuries after a 40-foot truck rammed into two passenger-laden commercial buses near the Berger Pedestrian Bridge on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, inward Mowe, Lagos State.
The crash, which occurred on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, caused significant traffic congestion, with vehicles backing up towards the Otedola Bridge.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) disclosed the incident in a post on its official X handle, stating that the truck reportedly lost control before crashing into the two buses.
In a subsequent update, the agency confirmed that five people, comprising three women and two men, including a driver, sustained serious injuries in the collision.
The injured victims were rescued and transported to the Lagos State Emergency and Trauma Centre at the Toll Gate for medical attention.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) at the scene reportedly attributed the crash to suspected brake failure, although the exact cause of the accident remains subject to investigation.
LASTMA said police officers were deployed to the scene, while traffic management personnel worked to control the congestion, facilitate emergency response, and ensure the safe evacuation of the damaged vehicles.
The agency added that further recovery operations were undertaken to clear the scene and restore the free flow of traffic.
The vehicles involved in the accident, including the truck, were handed over to the police for investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
Following the incident, LASTMA urged operators of heavy-duty vehicles to ensure their trucks were properly maintained and roadworthy, warning that mechanical faults could pose serious dangers to motorists and other road users.
The agency also reiterated its commitment to managing traffic emergencies, assisting accident victims, and promoting road safety across Lagos State.
