The All Progressives Congress (APC) has released an updated list of senatorial aspirants disqualified from participating in its primary elections, removing former Bayelsa East senator Ben Murray-Bruce from the earlier list of candidates not cleared by the party’s screening committee.
The party had initially announced that 47 aspirants failed to scale its screening exercise conducted in line with internal guidelines and procedures. However, in the revised list issued on Monday, Murray-Bruce’s name was conspicuously absent, signaling a review of the earlier screening outcome.
Despite the adjustment, several notable aspirants, including Rivers politician Tein Jack-Rich, remain among those disqualified from contesting in the party’s senatorial primaries.
According to the updated document, the number of affected aspirants has now dropped from 47 to 44, though the party did not provide any official explanation for the removal of some names from the original list.
The revised list, signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, covers aspirants from several states, including Rivers State, Oyo State, Zamfara State, Bayelsa State, Nasarawa State and Plateau State, with multiple aspirants across various senatorial districts affected by the screening outcome.
In the statement, Morka said: “The All Progressives Congress hereby releases an updated list of senatorial aspirants not cleared to participate in the party’s Senate Primary Elections.”
He further urged party members and stakeholders to uphold transparency, orderliness, and the integrity of the ongoing primary election process.
The party is expected to proceed with its senatorial primaries as scheduled despite growing reactions and controversy surrounding the screening exercise.
