The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Rivers State says it is witnessing what it described as an unprecedented wave of political interest and participation ahead of the 2027 general elections, following the emergence of eight governorship aspirants on the party’s platform.
The party disclosed this in a statement issued by its Rivers State Chairman, Chukwudi Dimkpa, who said the growing interest in the ADC reflects increasing public confidence in the party as a credible alternative political platform.
Dimkpa also described the decision of former Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi, to seek the party’s presidential ticket as a major milestone in the growing national momentum around the ADC.
According to him, the level of interest generated within the party in Rivers State has been extraordinary, with no fewer than eight prominent individuals already indicating interest in contesting for the governorship seat under the ADC platform.
He said the aspirants include former public office holders, technocrats, professionals and private sector operators, among them a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government, former members of the House of Representatives, a former Executive Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, a former Chairman of the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, a former Commissioner for Employment Generation, and a former Chief Medical Director of the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.
Dimkpa added that several other individuals have also indicated interest in contesting for Senate, House of Representatives, and State House of Assembly seats across the state.
“What we are witnessing is not an ordinary political movement. It is a convergence of experience, competence, credibility, youth energy, and grassroots belief in a new political direction for Rivers State and Nigeria,” he said.
He maintained that the influx of professionals and political actors into the ADC shows the party is increasingly being viewed as a platform for the future, driven by ideas, capacity, accountability, inclusion, and development-focused leadership.
Meanwhile, the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State has so far recorded at least three governorship aspirants, including Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Tonye Cole, and George Kelly, an ally of former Rivers State Governor and current Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
