The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two police officers and the abduction of a Chinese national and a Nigerian during an attack on a mining site in the Oreke-Okeigbo community, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday when unidentified gunmen stormed the facility, killing an Assistant Superintendent of Police, Haruna Watsai, and Inspector Tukur Ogah, both attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja. Their rifles were reportedly taken by the attackers.
Police spokesperson SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, speaking on behalf of Commissioner of Police CP Adekimi Ojo, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.
The abducted victims were identified as Mr. Sam Xie Wie, a Chinese national, and Mr. David Adenaiye, a Nigerian from Kogi State, both of whom were working at the site.
The CP condemned the attack and said a full-scale investigation and rescue mission had been launched. He assured the public of ongoing tactical and intelligence-led operations to apprehend the perpetrators and safely recover the victims.
Police also called on residents to remain calm, cooperate with security agencies, and provide credible information that could aid the investigation.
