The Rivers State Police Command hash confirmed the killing of a notorious kidnapper and murder suspect, David Uzoma Kamalu, also known as “M-Kaze,” during a raid on his hideout in Rumuodogu 1 Community, Emohua Local Government Area.

According to a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, made available to newsmen in Port Harcourt on Thursday, the operation was carried out by officers from the Rumuji Division in the early hours of May 25, 2025, following days of intensive intelligence gathering.

Kamalu, who was on the wanted list for a series of high-profile crimes, including armed robbery and kidnapping along the East-West Road, was fatally shot during a gun battle after he and his gang opened fire on the police. Other gang members fled with gunshot wounds.

Recovered from the scene were a pump-action shotgun, two live cartridges, and local charms believed to be used for protection and intimidation.

Kamalu had been linked to the gruesome murder and beheading of a local vigilante leader, Mr. Alete, popularly known as “Hunter Commander,” in January 2025. A bounty had previously been placed on his head by the former Chairman of Emohua LGA due to the significant threat he posed to the community.

Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, reaffirmed the command’s resolve to combat crime and ensure public safety. He also assured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing gang members.

SP Iringe-Koko urged the public to remain alert and report anyone with suspicious injuries to security agencies. She noted that all recovered items have been documented as part of the ongoing investigation.
