The Ondo State Police Command has launched an investigation into the mysterious disappearance of a two-month-old baby in Ode-Irele, located in the Irele Local Government Area of the state.

According to information obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the incident occurred around 9:00 p.m. on Monday at Gbeleju Quarters in the town.

Reports indicate that the baby’s mother (name withheld) briefly left the new born in the care of a two-year-old sibling while she stepped out to purchase a few items from a nearby shop. Upon her return, the baby was missing, and the toddler was unable to explain what happened.

The distraught mother raised an alarm, drawing the attention of neighbors who gathered in sympathy. The incident quickly spread fear and unrest in the community, eventually sparking a protest.

Confirming the development, Police Public Relations Officer, Olayinka Ayanlade, said the command has begun a thorough investigation to uncover the facts surrounding the case.

Ayanlade also addressed circulating rumors, denying claims that the baby’s father confessed to selling the child.

“We can confirm that a two-month-old baby is missing in Ode-Irele and that an investigation is ongoing. However, we must refute the reports alleging the father admitted to selling the baby. No such confession has been made, and the investigation has not yet concluded,” he stated.
