KkThe Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Emomotimi Guwor, along with 21 other lawmakers, formally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Monday.
During a plenary session, Guwor announced the receipt of defection letters from 21 members of the Assembly, each expressing their decision to leave the PDP. He also submitted his letter of defection at the same sitting.
According to the speaker, the decision was unanimous and driven by persistent internal conflicts within the PDP’s South-South Zonal leadership, as well as deepening crises at the national level.
“With this development, the Delta State House of Assembly is now entirely under the APC,” Guwor declared.
The mass defection represents a significant shift in Delta State’s political landscape, weakening the PDP’s long-standing influence and altering the legislative balance of power.
This development follows earlier defections by Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
