The NPA expressway and other industrial roads in Warri, Delta State, were shut down on Monday morning as Itsekiris in the area took to the streets to protest against the recent ward delineation exercise by the Independent National Electoral Commission in the area.

Coffin-bearing protesters made bonfires along the busy expressway that leads to the Nigerian Port Authority and blocked vehicle traffic.

It was gathered that the protesters, who are mainly of the Itsekiri ethnic stock, were unhappy about the exercise, claiming that it was illegal despite a Supreme Court ruling on the matter.

They carried placards with various inscriptions denouncing the exercise, stating that the ‘Warri Delineation exercise dead on arrival.”

It was also gathered that there were similar protests in Agbassa area in Warri South and Ogbe-Ijoh, headquarters of Warri Southwest LGA.
