No fewer than 14 individuals, including three students, are feared dead in three ghastly motor accidents that occurred in Ogun, Cross Rivers, and Ebonyi states, as Nigerians travel for the yuletide holidays.

Three students from Olabisi Onabanjo University in Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, were confirmed dead on Friday following a tragic motor accident along the Ilisan-Ago-Iwoye Road. The Ogun State Police Command confirmed the deaths of the three students.

The command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, stated that the accident occurred at approximately 3:30 PM on Friday when the Opel Safira they were travelling in somersaulted.

“The incident involved a commercial Opel Safira with the license plate Lagos AAA-126HE, driven by Adekunkle Adebiyi, residing at 5 Sunmibare Street, Awa Ijebu.

“A male passenger, whose identity has not yet been confirmed but is believed to be a student from OOU, died at the scene. His body has been taken to the General Hospital Ijebu Ode mortuary.

“Additionally, two female students from Olabisi Onabanjo University, Dada Oluwanifesimi, 18, a sophomore in Mass Communication, and Miracle Ogo Oluwa Daniel, 19, a junior, were rushed to Love and Care Hospital but unfortunately succumbed to their injuries while receiving treatment.”

    Six death in Abia

Meanwhile, six passengers reportedly died in a tragic accident around Mmuri Rivers, along the Umuahia-Ozu-Abam-Ohafia highway on Monday. Eyewitness accounts revealed that one of the vehicles had the inscription, Ochendo Mobile, and was en route to Umuahia, the Abia State capital, when the accident occurred.

“A lorry carrying granite appeared to have lost control, swerving across the road and ramming into the passenger vehicle.”

The Abia State Road Traffic and Safety Management Agency (ARTSMA) expressed regret over the unfortunate incident. The agency’s General Manager, Col. Ezichi Kalu (Rtd.), stated, “Regrettably, six individuals lost their lives on the spot. One passenger sustained severe injuries, while two others suffered varying degrees of injuries.”

At least 3 dead in Calabar-Obudu highway

In another incident, at least three holidaymakers lost their lives along the Calabar to Obudu leisure park on Sunday in a deadly collision. The accident involved a Toyota Sienna commercial van and another private car that was mangled beyond recognition.

An unknown social media user who posted a video clip from the scene advised families whose members were travelling to the area to get in touch with them. The scene showed two individuals dead under the wheel of the private car, while about six others were sprawled on the tarmac and roadsides, including a young lady crying for help.

“This is the result of bad driving by Calabar motorists,” one voice on the video said while appealing to passersby to help remove the remains and bodies of the victims from the two vehicles.
