The Federal Government has reassured Nigerians that ongoing economic reforms, including fuel subsidy removal, foreign exchange adjustments, and fiscal restructuring, are designed to yield long-term benefits for the country.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, gave the assurance on Friday in Lagos while receiving the “Image Maker Award 2026,” where he highlighted the importance of clear and credible communication in governance.
Speaking at the event, Idris said effective communication remains central to building public trust and national unity, noting that government messaging must not only inform citizens but also inspire confidence and hope.
The minister reiterated his commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and truth in public communication, stressing that regular engagement with citizens and the media has been key to bridging the gap between government policies and public perception.
He also underscored the critical role of timely and accurate information in matters of national security, revealing that the government continues to work closely with security agencies and media organisations to maintain public calm and strengthen confidence in its efforts.
According to him, the administration’s communication strategy around major policy changes has been guided by clarity, consistency, and credibility, with a focus on explaining the long-term advantages of reforms to Nigerians.
Idris described the award as a reflection of the trust the government seeks to build with citizens, adding that it serves as motivation to further improve communication efforts in the service of the nation.
The event, organised by Vanguard Media Limited, was attended by several prominent figures, including Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, Taraba State Governor Agbu Kefas, Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Minister of Women Affairs Imaan Suleiman Ibrahim, and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese Matthew Hassan Kukah, among others.
