The House of Representatives on Thursday called on the Federal Government to urgently deploy additional troops to affected communities in Borno State and Kaduna State following a wave of violent attacks by bandits.

The resolution followed the adoption of two motions of urgent public importance moved during plenary by Midala Balami and Gabriel Zock, who represent constituencies in the two states.

Presenting his motion, Balami decried the persistent attacks in Askira-Uba/Hawul Federal Constituency, particularly in Mussa Ward, Leho, Pubagu, Kwajaffa, Harang, and surrounding communities. He drew attention to the recent abduction of about 20 persons along the Biu–Buratai–Damaturu road, including women and children, describing the situation as alarming.

According to him, the attacks have led to loss of lives, displacement of residents, and destruction of homes and farmlands, while also crippling socio-economic activities in the area. He expressed concern that existing security responses have not been sufficient to prevent recurring violence.

Balami, however, commended the Governor of Borno State, Babagana Zulum, for supporting local vigilantes and strengthening security operations in the state.

Following deliberations, the House urged the Federal Government to deploy adequate military and paramilitary personnel to the affected communities and ensure the safe rescue of abducted victims.

Lawmakers also called on the Chief of Defence Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, and other security chiefs to intensify surveillance and establish permanent security outposts in the troubled areas. In addition, the House urged the National Emergency Management Agency to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to victims.

In a related motion, Zock raised concerns over escalating insecurity in Kachia/Kagoro Federal Constituency of Kaduna State, revealing that between October 2025 and April 2026, hundreds of residents had been abducted while dozens were killed in coordinated attacks.

He cited multiple incidents, including mass kidnappings, attacks on villages, and the killing of at least 13 persons in the Kahir Community in March 2026, with several others injured or abducted. He noted that many communities, including Kachia town and surrounding areas, remain under constant threat, with bandits often operating for hours without immediate security response.

Zock warned that the continued attacks have forced residents to flee their homes, leaving some villages nearly deserted, while economic activities have been severely disrupted, worsening poverty and food insecurity.

Following the adoption of the motion, the House called for the immediate deployment of additional security personnel and resources to the affected areas in Kaduna State. It also mandated its Committees on National Security and Intelligence, Defence, Police Affairs, and Army to assess the security situation and report back within two weeks.

The lawmakers further urged the establishment of additional Forward Operating Bases and rapid response units in strategic locations to enhance security and deter further attacks.
