The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Kehinde Joseph, and his 13-year-old son, John Joseph, for allegedly being in possession of a locally made pistol, a live cartridge, and a mask.

The suspects were apprehended on Sunday along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road during a stop-and-search operation conducted by the command’s Quick Response Squad.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Monday.

According to him, operatives intercepted a tricycle conveying the teenage suspect around the Lafarge area of the Sagamu/Ogijo Road axis at about 11 a.m.

A search conducted on the boy reportedly led to the recovery of the firearm, a live cartridge, and a mask, items he could not satisfactorily account for. The teenager, however, claimed that the weapon belonged to his father.

“Operatives of the Quick Response Squad, Ogun State Police Command, arrested two suspects, a father and his teenage son, for unlawful possession of a firearm,” Babaseyi said.

He added that following the disclosure, police operatives intensified efforts and subsequently arrested the father.

Both suspects, along with the recovered items, have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation, while authorities say they will be charged in court upon conclusion of the probe.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the vigilance and professionalism of the operatives involved in the operation.

He reiterated the command’s zero-tolerance stance on illegal possession of firearms and other criminal activities, assuring residents of continued efforts to ensure safety and security across the state.

Ojajuni also urged members of the public to provide timely and credible information to the police and report suspicious activities through the command’s emergency channels.
