President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Shu’aibu Shehu Aliyu as the Executive Secretary of the Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) and renewed the tenure of Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the Transmission Company of Nigeria.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
According to the statement, Aliyu replaces Ahmed Galadima Aminu, who resigned his position to pursue his governorship ambition in Adamawa State ahead of the 2027 elections. The appointment takes immediate effect.
Aliyu, a former Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, was described as a seasoned academic and administrator. The President expressed confidence in his ability to reposition the PTDF for greater impact in human capital development, innovation, and strategic support for Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
In a related development, Tinubu renewed the appointment of Abdulaziz for a second and final term, citing his strong performance and leadership in managing the nation’s transmission network.
The Presidency noted that under Abdulaziz’s leadership, the Transmission Company of Nigeria has recorded improvements in grid stability, expansion of transmission capacity, and ongoing system modernisation.
Abdulaziz, who has over three decades of experience in the power sector, has also contributed to strengthening regional electricity integration through his role in the West African Power Pool.
The President urged both appointees to discharge their duties with diligence, integrity, and a strong sense of national service in line with his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
