South African pop star Tyla has won the Best African Music Performance award at the 68th Grammy Awards held on February 1, 2026, in Los Angeles, earning her second victory in the category.

The 24-year-old singer picked up the prize with her song Push 2 Start, becoming the first artiste to win the category twice since it was introduced. She first claimed the award in 2024 with her global breakout hit Water.

Her latest win further strengthens her growing global profile and underlines her position as one of Africa’s leading contemporary pop exports.

The Best African Music Performance category was created in 2024 to recognise recordings that highlight African sounds and artistry. Nigerian singer Tems won the award in 2025.

This year’s nominee list featured several major African acts, with strong Nigerian representation, including Burna Boy, Davido featuring Omah Lay, Ayra Starr featuring Wizkid, and Eddy Kenzo with Mehran Matin.

Push 2 Start, from her 2024 self-titled debut album, gained wide popularity across streaming platforms and social media, driven by dance trends and viral challenges. The track mixes amapiano rhythms with pop and R&B, a blend that continues to attract international listeners.

The Grammy weekend also spotlighted African music heritage, with Nigerian legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti receiving a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award.
