A Qatar Airways aircraft carrying 248 passengers and 12 crew members has made a safe emergency landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, after developing a technical fault while airborne.
The incident occurred on Thursday, with emergency response teams placed on high alert as the aircraft touched down safely on the runway. Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), alongside other responders, were on standby during the operation.
Confirming the development in a statement, the Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said no lives were lost and no injuries were recorded.
According to him, distress alerts received through LASEMA’s emergency lines prompted the immediate activation of the state’s emergency response plan from its Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja.
Upon arrival at the scene, response teams discovered that the aircraft had carried out a forced landing due to technical issues encountered while flying within Nigerian airspace.
“The pilot executed a safe landing at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport with LASEMA and other emergency responders on extreme high alert,” the statement said.
Dr Oke-Osanyintolu added that following safety checks by the pilot and engineering crew, the aircraft was moved to the apron for detailed inspection and necessary repairs.
“All passengers were safely evacuated. No loss of lives or injuries were recorded, and there was no significant damage to the aircraft,” he noted.
Emergency responders involved in the operation included LASEMA response teams, LASAMBUS, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, and the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
