The Commissioner of Police in Katsina State, Bello Shehu, has directed the Coordinator of the School Protection Squad to activate all security mechanisms aimed at safeguarding students and staff across schools in the state.
The directive was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abubakar Aliyu. According to the statement, Shehu gave the order during a meeting with tactical commanders convened to review the command’s overall security strategies.
The police chief said the move aligns with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, who has prioritised enhanced safety around educational institutions nationwide. He further ordered the deployment of additional security resources to vulnerable schools and surrounding communities.
Shehu urged the public to intensify support for the command’s crime-fighting efforts and to promptly report any suspicious activities that may threaten school safety.
The renewed security measures come amid a surge in school attacks and student abductions in parts of northern Nigeria, particularly in Kebbi and Niger states. The rising insecurity has forced some state governments to order full or partial closure of schools as a precaution.
