The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old suspected cultist, Sulaimon Laja, for allegedly terrorising residents of the Igbesa community in the Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area.

Laja, reportedly a member of the Aiye confraternity, was arrested after he allegedly disguised himself to evade police detection. Police Public Relations Officer, SP Omolola Odutola, confirmed the arrest in a statement issued in Abeokuta on Tuesday.

According to Odutola, officers who noticed the suspect’s unusual appearance immediately apprehended him and compelled him to lead them to the group’s hideout. A search of the location resulted in the recovery of a serviceable single-barrel gun believed to have been used in criminal operations within the community.

She added that Laja confessed to being involved in cult-related crimes and further revealed the identities of other fleeing members of the group.

Odutola noted that the police command had launched a manhunt for the escaped suspects to ensure their swift arrest.

“In a significant breakthrough, the Ogun State Police Command has continued to whittle down cult-related activities across the state as a suspected cultist and member of the dreaded Aiye confraternity was apprehended by police operatives in Igbesa,” she said.

She commended the Divisional Police Officer of Igbesa Division for the successful operation, stressing that the suspect and the recovered firearm would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

Odutola reaffirmed the command’s commitment to eliminating criminal elements and restoring peace and public confidence across communities in the state.
