Social media personality, Ojaigho Prosper, popularly known as Gehgeh has ignited a heated debate after declaring that African men should not kneel to propose to women, calling the practice “unAfrican” and unnecessary.

Speaking on the latest episode of the Honest Bunch podcast, Gehgeh argued that men proposing on one knee implies they are “doing women a favour” by choosing to marry them.

When the hosts challenged his opinion — noting that women also make sacrifices in marriage by raising children and managing homes — Gehgeh stood firm on his position.

According to him, “men don’t need marriage for anything,” adding that he personally does not need a woman “for anything” except to have children, which, he said, can happen without marriage or formal proposals.

His remarks quickly went viral, sparking widespread criticism on social media. Many users accused him of being dismissive and disrespectful toward women, while others defended his statement as a reflection of traditional African values and cultural authenticity.
