A businessman, Chiebonam Eze, popularly known as Power-Autos, was allegedly stabbed to death during a bonfire night at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), over the weekend.
Eze, who hailed from Lejja community in Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, was said to have attended the event organised on Friday night by the Department of Archaeology, Faculty of Arts, at UNN.
Trouble reportedly started when his Mercedes-Benz GLK brushed another vehicle, sparking a confrontation. Although campus security operatives intervened, tensions escalated shortly after.
Eyewitnesses said that as Eze attempted to leave the venue with his friends, his car was blocked by three vehicles inside the campus. While his companions fled, he stepped out to assess the situation but was fatally stabbed in the throat, dying instantly.
The attackers fled the scene, abandoning one of their vehicles after it got stuck in a drainage channel. UNN’s Chief Security Officer, Kris Alumona, immediately ordered the closure of all campus gates.
Security operatives later arrested four suspects while they tried to escape through the Odenigwe Gate axis. They are now in police custody at the Enugu State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), where investigations are ongoing.
UNN’s Acting Public Relations Officer, Sunday Agha, confirmed the incident, adding that the institution would soon release an official statement.
It was further gathered that the deceased was not a student of UNN but had been invited to the party.
