Suspected herdsmen launched a deadly attack on Saturday afternoon in the Ngban community, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, killing a woman and her son on their rice farm.
The victims, identified as Mlumun Igbawua and her son Benjamin Igbawua, were reportedly ambushed while working on their farmland. Sources said the attackers also abducted another woman, who was later rescued with severe injuries inflicted during torture.
Ngban, a settlement located between Daudu and Yelewata along the Benue-Nasarawa federal highway, has been a flashpoint of repeated violence in recent months, with multiple homes destroyed and residents displaced.
Chairman of Guma LGA and ALGON Chairman in Benue State, Chief Maurice Orwough, confirmed the killings during a visit to the scene. He said the victims hailed from Tse-Nyibiam near Ngban, in Nyiev Council Ward — an area that has suffered recurring violent attacks.
Tragically, this is not the first loss for the Igbawua family. Benjamin’s father was reportedly killed in May this year while working on the same farm.
Benjamin’s wife, who went missing during Saturday’s attack, was found alive after enduring severe torture. She has since been reunited with her family.
Chief Orwough assured residents that security agencies have been directed to track down the perpetrators. He appealed for calm and reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring peace and security in the troubled region.
