The Federal Government has described the 2026 Appropriation Bill as a strategic instrument to consolidate the gains of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s reform agenda and fast-track shared prosperity for Nigerians.
This was disclosed by the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, who said the budget, tagged “The Budget of Consolidation, Renewed Resilience and Shared Prosperity,” reflects the administration’s determination to strengthen ongoing reforms, reverse years of economic stagnation, and lay the foundation for a stable and inclusive future.
According to the minister, early indicators of progress are already evident, including expanding business activity, improving investor confidence, easing inflationary pressures, and stronger external reserves, which he said underscore the positive impact of recent economic policies.
Idris highlighted several key social and economic interventions embedded in the 2026 budget, including the student loan scheme under the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative, and youth-focused empowerment programmes such as the Labour Employment and Empowerment Programme (LEEP), Jubilee Fellows Programme, and the Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) initiative. He added that targeted measures to enhance food security and accelerate agricultural mechanisation also form a major component of the spending plan.
On infrastructure and national security, the minister pointed to ongoing and planned projects such as the Coastal Highway, the Sokoto–Badagry Expressway, the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline, and new rail developments across the country. He also noted increased recruitment and improved equipment for security agencies, citing recent successful rescue operations in Kebbi and Niger states as evidence of progress in the security sector.
Idris commended President Tinubu for what he described as decisive and courageous leadership, assuring that the Ministry of Information and National Orientation remains committed to transparency and effective communication of government policies. He urged Nigerians to support nation-building efforts, reject misinformation, and actively protect public assets in the collective interest of national development.
