Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, has absolved the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) of any wrongdoing in the disbursement of student loans, affirming that the agency operates free of fraud.
Following investigations into allegations of fund mismanagement, Alausa stated that no evidence of misconduct was found. He made this known on Wednesday in Abuja during a meeting with stakeholders including vice chancellors, representatives from the National Universities Commission, NELFUND officials, and ministry staff.
The minister criticized a statement by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), arguing that the agency’s claims were unfounded.
According to the ICPC, its probe into discrepancies in loan disbursements revealed that NELFUND had properly released the full amount intended for student loans.
