The All Progressives Congress (APC) screening committee for the Rivers State House of Assembly has dismissed as false a purported list of cleared and uncleared aspirants for the 2027 elections, saying the document did not originate from the committee or the party leadership.

Reports had earlier emerged that the committee had concluded the screening of 98 aspirants seeking to contest the party’s primaries, with claims that 65 aspirants allegedly linked to the state governor were not cleared, while 33 said to be loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike, were cleared by the committee chaired by Rt. Hon. Muraina Ajibola.

However, in a disclaimer issued on Monday and signed by the committee’s secretary, Hon. Tanko Yamowa, the APC described the circulating list as unauthorised and misleading.

According to the statement, the attention of the party leadership had been drawn to the circulation of the purported screening results across various media platforms.

The committee stated that the publication was false, unauthorised, and did not emanate from the appropriate party authorities.

It further noted that the screening exercise conducted by the committee was concluded less than 24 hours earlier and that no official list had been released by the party.

The APC said it remained guided by established procedures, rules, and timelines in the publication of screening results and other related information, assuring that any official communication on the status of aspirants would be made through the appropriate channels.

The party urged its members, aspirants, supporters, and the general public to disregard the purported list, describing it as the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to create confusion and unnecessary tension within the party.

It reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, fairness, and due process throughout the screening exercise.
