The camp loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, recorded a major political victory on Saturday as several of his allies emerged winners in the All Progressives Congress, APC, House of Representatives primaries held across Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The ward-based primaries, conducted as part of the APC’s nationwide exercise to select candidates for the National Assembly, produced a long list of winners widely seen as loyalists of the former Rivers governor.

Among the most notable victories was that of Martin Amaewhule, Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and a key ally of Wike, who secured the party’s ticket for the Obio/Akpor Federal Constituency after polling 17,968 votes.

Incumbent lawmaker Dumnamene Dekor also retained his hold on the Gokana/Khana Federal Constituency ticket, defeating Israel Ngbuelo by 17,073 votes to 1,220.

Other prominent winners included Solomon Bob, who clinched the Abua/Odual/Ahoada East Federal Constituency ticket with 16,079 votes, while Frederick Apiafi emerged victorious in Andoni/Opobo/Nkoro with 8,550 votes.

In the Port Harcourt constituencies, Igwe Precious secured the Port Harcourt I ticket with 5,885 votes, while Blessing Amadi won the Port Harcourt II constituency with 5,674 votes.

Cyril Hart emerged candidate for the Degema/Bonny Federal Constituency after polling 7,203 votes to defeat Philmore Tony, who scored 1,020 votes, while Isobo Jack won the Akuku-Toru/Asari-Toru seat with 11,303 votes.

In other results, Felix Nwaeke was returned as candidate for the Eleme/Tai/Oyigbo Federal Constituency with 18,605 votes, while Victor Obuzor clinched the Ahoada West/Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni ticket after polling 15,626 votes.

Chibuzor Nwamaka won the Etche/Omuma Federal Constituency with 10,440 votes, defeating Obasi Chinazam, who scored 2,423 votes.

In the Ikwerre/Emohua Federal Constituency, Nyebuchi Joy emerged victorious with 13,704 votes, defeating Adiele Lawrence, who polled 2,030 votes.

Also, Linda Stewart secured the Okrika/Ogu/Bolo Federal Constituency ticket with 12,347 votes, defeating Tekena Ikiaki, who garnered 3,880 votes.

Announcing the results at the APC State Secretariat in Port Harcourt, Chairman of the Election Committee, Wahab Owokoniran, described the exercise as peaceful, orderly, and devoid of the violence many had anticipated.

He said the election was conducted in a calm atmosphere without rancour, infighting, or disruption, noting that the process contradicted the widespread perception of political violence in Rivers State.
