MultiChoice Nigeria has reduced the price of its DStv decoder by 50%, dropping it from ₦20,000 to ₦10,000, in a move aimed at attracting new customers and addressing a sharp decline in its subscriber base.
As part of a new promotional campaign, the company is also offering a free upgrade to the next subscription tier for customers who fully renew their current package between June 16 and July 31, 2025.
The initiative, called “We’ve Got You,” is designed to reward loyal subscribers and entice returning users by making premium content more accessible. The upgrade will be applied automatically to all qualifying subscribers during the promo period, providing access to more channels and programming without additional cost.
According to MultiChoice Nigeria, this offer is a direct response to the economic challenges affecting many Nigerians. The company lost 1.4 million subscribers in the country between March 2023 and March 2025, accounting for 77% of the total 1.8 million subscriber loss across the Rest of Africa operations during the same period. The total number of RoA subscribers dropped from 9.3 million in 2023 to 7.5 million in 2025.
MultiChoice attributed the decline to a combination of rising inflation, frequent power grid failures, and fuel scarcity. The company also acknowledged that its decision to raise DStv and GOtv prices three times—twice in 2023 and once in 2024—may have contributed to the subscriber drop.
CEO John Ugbe said the campaign reflects the company’s intention to deliver greater value and show appreciation to its customers. He emphasized that DStv offers a wide variety of content beyond sports, including movies, dramas, kids’ shows, and news, positioning the platform as a source of everyday entertainment for Nigerian households.
