A joyful occasion turned into a heartbreaking tragedy in Toro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, as a groom and two of his friends lost their lives in a car accident just moments before his wedding ceremony.
The fatal crash occurred on Saturday morning.
The groom, SP Mustapha Garba Gumau, a senior police officer, was traveling from Gumau to Magaman-Gumau for his wedding Fatiha scheduled for 10:00 a.m. when the accident happened around 9:00 a.m. near Bargain Tsamiya village.
According to eyewitnesses, the vehicle carrying the groom and his friends veered off the road and crashed, killing Gumau and two of his companions — Shuaibu Umar and Sulaiman Musa — instantly.
Several other passengers in the vehicle reportedly sustained varying degrees of injuries.
The sudden loss has plunged the communities of Gumau and Magaman-Gumau into mourning, turning a day meant for celebration into one of deep sorrow.
Efforts to reach the spokesman of the Bauchi State Police Command, Mohammed Wakil, for comments were unsuccessful, as his phone line was unreachable.
