A female student of the Ogun State Institute of Technology, Igbesa (formerly Gateway Polytechnic, Igbesa), was brutally assaulted by fellow students over allegations of “snatching” someone’s boyfriend.

In a viral video circulated on Wednesday, multiple female students were seen flogging the victim with long, thick canes. They claimed their actions were known to their mothers and expressed indifference about any potential consequences or reports to authorities.

The victim sustained visible injuries to her back and head.

Despite efforts by some students to stop one of the attackers, identified as Lolade, she persisted, insisting the beating was intended as punishment.

Following public outrage, the Ogun State Police Command announced it has launched an investigation. In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, the Command confirmed that the Igbesa Divisional Police Officer is now handling the case.

“The Ogun State Police Command is on top of the situation, and the DPO Igbesa has taken charge of the case,” the post read.
