Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has firmly denied rumours of a rift between him and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, calling the claims baseless and misleading.

Speaking to journalists on Sunday after a private meeting with the President at his Ikoyi residence, Sanwo-Olu described Tinubu as a father and leader, reaffirming his loyalty and that of Lagos State to the President’s administration.

“There’s no conflict whatsoever,” Sanwo-Olu said. “Some people just like to create drama. He is my leader, and we’re grateful for his time today.”

The meeting, attended by members of the Lagos Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), was described as a routine festive visit to show support. Sanwo-Olu said the group used the opportunity to express satisfaction with Tinubu’s performance over the past two years.

Highlighting key achievements, the governor pointed to the unveiling of 12 new Blue Line train coaches in Lagos, crediting federal support made possible by Tinubu’s intervention fund following the fuel subsidy removal. He said the trains are part of efforts to improve public transport in Nigeria’s commercial capital.

Sanwo-Olu added that the President’s economic reforms are starting to yield results, with noticeable reductions in fuel and food prices. “These improvements are putting money back in people’s pockets,” he said. “When progress is visible, we should acknowledge it.”

Reacting to planned June 12 protests by some groups, the governor urged Nigerians to be patient and give Tinubu more time. He stressed that the economy is on the path to recovery and warned against unnecessary unrest.

“We’ve engaged with the groups involved,” he said. “The economy has made a positive turn. Let’s stay the course.”

He also revealed that President Tinubu encouraged APC leaders to focus on grassroots mobilisation ahead of the upcoming local government elections. Sanwo-Olu described the meeting as a show of unity and pledged continued support for the administration.

“We are one big political family,” he said. “Lagos is solidly behind the President because his leadership is delivering real results.
