The Nigeria Police Force has made significant progress in its fight against transnational organized crime with the arrest of two internationally wanted fugitives: Felix Omoregie, also known as “Eghosa Johnson Omoregie,” and Okwudili Sabastine Ezeje.
According to Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi, Omoregie is the suspected leader of a human trafficking ring sought by Belgian authorities, while Ezeje is a major figure in an armed robbery syndicate operating out of Dubai.
Omoregie declared wanted through an INTERPOL Red Notice in December 2023, was apprehended in Benin City, Edo State. He faces charges related to trafficking young Nigerian women and minors to Europe for sexual exploitation. Victims were subjected to coercive tactics, including voodoo rituals and fabricated debts ranging between €20,000 and €50,000 used to manipulate and control them. Omoregie had previously been convicted in absentia in Belgium and fled to Nigeria to evade justice.
Authorities recovered incriminating evidence from his residence, including documents suggesting plans to flee to Canada. He is set to appear before the Federal High Court in Benin City.
In a separate operation, 37-year-old Ezeje was arrested in Nsukka, Enugu State, by operatives of INTERPOL NCB Abuja. He is wanted in the United Arab Emirates for multiple crimes, including armed robbery, cultism, and drug trafficking. Investigators revealed that he continued coordinating criminal activities from Nigeria and has been linked to high-profile robberies in Dubai and Sharjah.
The successful operations were the result of coordinated efforts between the Nigeria Police Force, the Office of the National Security Adviser, and Dubai Police.
Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun praised the officers involved and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to international cooperation in law enforcement, stating that Nigeria will not be a refuge for criminals. The public was urged to support ongoing efforts to combat organized crime.
