At least seven people have been confirmed dead and four others injured in a fatal road crash that occurred along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway on Saturday morning.

The crash resulted in a major traffic gridlock, leaving numerous commuters stranded for hours as emergency responders raced to clear the scene and assist victims.

The crash, which reportedly occurred at about 7 a.m. on Saturday, involved 15 passengers and three vehicles: a Mack truck with registration number SEY363YY, a tanker registered as T2900LA, and a yellow bus LSD180YA.

Confirming the incident, the spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ogun Sector Command, Florence Okpe, attributed the cause of the crash to excessive speed on the part of the truck driver.

She said, “A total of 15 people were involved, which comprised of thirteen male adults and two female adults, four persons were injured, that is three male adults and one female adult, while seven people were recorded dead from the multiple crashes (six male adults and one female adult).

“ The suspected cause of the multiple crashes was excessive speed on the part of the Mack truck which led to the loss of control and rammed into the other two vehicles”

According to her, the injured victims were taken to Divine Touch Hospital and Glory Center Hospital Ibafo, while the bodies of the dead were deposited at Idera Morgue Sagamu, and the crash vehicles were towed off the road for free flow of traffic.

The Sector Commander, Fasakin Akinwumi, on visiting the scene, sympathized with the families of the crash victims and enjoined them to contact FRSC IBAFO for more information.
