The Ogun State Police Command said it has successfully rescued Mrs. Odumosu, the wife of retired Assistant-Inspector General Hakeem Odumosu, and neutralized two kidnappers in a well-coordinated operation on January 23, 2025.
The daring rescue followed the abduction of Mrs Odumosu on January 16, 2025, when she was forcibly taken from her vehicle outside her residence in Arepo, Ogun State.
The police’s swift response began immediately after the kidnapping, with the anti-kidnapping unit working alongside technical intelligence platforms from the Force Headquarters. Surveillance and investigation efforts led operatives to a creek in the Ikorodu area, where the kidnappers had been hiding out and planning further criminal activities.
A statement by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer Force Headquarters, Abuja, said “At approximately 6:45 AM, police raided the hideout. The kidnappers opened fire on the operatives, leading to a shootout in which two of the assailants were neutralized, while others fled, leaving behind weapons and evidence.
“During the operation, Mrs. Odumosu was safely rescued from the swampy area, unharmed, and is now undergoing a medical evaluation.”
In addition to the successful rescue, the police recovered a significant cache of weapons, including four AK-47 rifles, three locally made single-barrel rifles, ammunition, and the N10,000,000 ransom previously demanded by the kidnappers.
“The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, commended the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, and the entire team for their bravery and dedication in neutralizing the threat and ensuring the safety of the victim,” the statement added.
This operation highlights the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing commitment to combating kidnapping and other violent crimes, ensuring the security of all citizens.
