Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested a middle-aged man for allegedly raping a 15-year-old minor in the state.
The suspect identified as Gospel Victor, allegedly committed the offence at Ewohimi community in Esan South East LGA.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, Moses Yamu, who confirmed this to newsmen in Benin City, said the incident happened on January 13, 2025.
According to Yamu, the incident was reported to the police, and the suspect was promptly arrested.
He added that the suspect, who is currently in police custody, would be charged in court.It was gathered that the suspect allegedly lured the minor into his room and forcefully had canal knowledge of her without her consent.
It was also gathered that the shouts of the victim attracted neighbors, who discovered that she was being raped by the suspect.
Yamu added that the minor sustained injuries in her private part as a result of the rape and was taken to the hospital for treatment by the police.
