Operatives of the Nigeria Police in Kano State have arrested three suspects with counterfeit foreign currencies equivalent to N100.5 billion Naira.

Parading the suspects to newsmen on Tuesday, the Command’s Spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the Money, which was in Dollars and other Foreign Currencies, included $3,366,000, CFA51,970,000, N1,443,000, and three live ammunition.

The suspects, Muhammad Abdullahi, Muhammad Muktahr, and Nura Ibrahim, confessed to the crime but refused to disclose the source or where the fake currencies were printed.

One of the suspects, Nura Ibrahim claimed they got the fake currencies from Lagos, while Muhammad Muktahr insisted he was lured into the crime.

Kiyawa informed the press that between the 25th of November and the 9th of December 2024, the Command arrested 62 different criminal suspects and recovered stolen properties, hard drugs, dangerous weapons, and different counterfeit currencies, including Dollars and Cefa.

He said the summary of the achievements recorded includes 8 armed robbery suspects, 10 suspected cattle rustlers, 3 suspected kidnappers, 1 suspect for abduction, and suspected drug dealers.

Others, according to him, are four suspected fraudsters and twenty-two suspected thugs; Yan Daba rescued two kidnap victims and ten human trafficking victims.

Abdullahi Kiyawa disclosed that as a result of the multifaceted approach adopted by the Command, Kano State has indeed become a safer and more secure place for all.

“However, we acknowledge that there is still work to be done as we must sustain the tempo, and we will remain committed to continuously improving our efforts and strengthening our partnership with other security agencies and the community to ensure that Kano State remains a beacon of safety and security for residents and visitors alike.”
