Warri-based radio station, Rise FM, was Friday night gutted by fire around the popular Edewor Shopping Centre in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State.
Eyewitnesses said the fire started late in the evening and razed down a section of the five-story building housing Rise FM and other business officers.
In a video of the incident, an eyewitness said, “Rise FM, located opposite Glo (telecommunication) office in Effurun, is on fire as we speak.”
Sources said the fire started from the 3rd floor of the building, but it was unclear what caused it.
It was gathered that rescue efforts by the state fire service were hampered by a lack of equipment and also as trucks deployed ran out of water.
The building, which formerly housed JFM Radio owned by late Chief James Ugeh, also houses some major businesses, including an LG electronic warehouse.
One voice on a trending video of the incident said, “The firefighters are around, but there is nothing that they can do (as the fire was at a height that is unreachable by their hose and equipment)”.
