An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, ordered the remand of one Olamide Oladele in a correctional facility in Ibadan, for allegedly killing an 11-month-old baby.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Toyin Ibrahim told the court that the defendant committed the offence on November 22, at about 8.30 p.m., in the Ajobo area, Ibadan.
Ibrahim said the defendant and one Sikiru Ridwan, 25, fought in a public place on the date mentioned earlier.
He said while fighting, Oladele threw a stone which incidentally hit an 11-month-old Erioluwa Odunayo on the forehead.
The toddler was strapped at the back of her mother, who was passing by at the time of the fight.
He said the stone, which caused the baby serious injury, eventually led to her death.
Oladele, whose address was not provided, was charged with murder.
Meanwhile, Ridwan was charged with affray and conduct likely to cause the breach of peace by fighting.
Ibrahim said the offences contravened Sections 319, 83, and 249(d) of the Criminal Laws of Oyo State, 2000.
The Magistrate, Mrs Kausarat Ayofe, did not take the plea of the defendant for lack of jurisdiction and ordered that he be remanded in the correctional facility.
She directed the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal advice.
The Magistrate, Ayofe granted Ridwan bail in the sum of N200,000 and two sureties in like sum and then adjourned the case to January 6, 2025, for hearing.
