A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos has ordered the remand in the correctional facility of a 27-year-old tiler, Qudus Kazeem, for allegedly raping his employer’s wife.

The prosecutor, Insp Reuben Solomon, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in December 2022, at No, 8/10, Kola John, off Feyintola Giwa Street Surulere, Lagos.

Solomon alleged that the defendant, who was employed to lay tiles in the apartment of one Mr Damilare Gbadamosi, left his work and forced himself on his employer’s wife.

According to him, the defendant threatened to ruin the victim’s marriage if she did not send money to him or willingly have intercourse with him.

Solomon said the alleged offences contravened sections 56 (1) (a), 260, 280, and 314 (1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, Mrs Sanusi Adagun, remanded the defendant following his arraignment on a four-count charge of unlawful sexual intercourse, a threat to life, obtaining money under pretences, and stealing.

Adagun directed the prosecutor to duplicate the case file and forward a copy to the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

She adjourned the case until Dec. 18 for mention.
